Fillers – Restylane

Patient information Restylane®

Restylane is a biodegradable filler (cosmetic dermal filler) based on hyaluronic acid.

There are various types of dermal fillers on the market. However, Restylane is unique in that it is the only filler with NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid). NASHA is the first stable, biodegradable hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin and is produced under carefully controlled conditions in a manner patented since 1995. It is important that this Restylane is extremely safe, and gives a longer lasting natural effect in comparison to other hyaluronic acids. In the USA Restylane is the first hyaluronic acid filler approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

In the body hyaluronic acid is abundant in the human skin, the retention of water being it’s most important function. In this way it gives the skin its elasticity. This natural amount of hyaluronic acid decreases with age. Restylane injections restores the level of hyaluronic acid and with that the retention of water in the skin.

The different types of Restylane differ with regard to the size of the particles from which the hyaluronic acid gel is built up. From small to large;

● Restylane Vital – shows improvement in skin texture

● Restylane – for lines and lip contour

● Restylane Lyft – for coarser lines and volume

● Restylane Kysse – specially designed for lip volume

If necessary, the area to be treated can be anesthetized with a cream or narcotic injections.

A Restylane treatment usually takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes and yields instant results. Expect some swelling the first days after the treatment.

The most common risk is the chance of a (small) bruise because of the puncture. This is seen in 50% of the patients. Restylane allergies affect less than 1: 10,000 patients only.

Avoid exposure to the sun or tanning bed for two weeks or wear high SPF sun protector. On average, six to twelve months of satisfactory result are to be expected. The treatment may be repeated after that, or sooner (two months) if a higher level of correction is to be achieved.
